MONUMENT IN HONOR OF THE SANITARY CORPS
The piece is based on applause, a gesture used to thank healthcare workers for their work and sacrifice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over time, this custom disappeared, so the monument stands with the intention of preserving the gesture indefinitely as a sign of eternal gratitude.
From a material standpoint, the monument is constructed using 4 mm thick Corten steel sheets, shaped and mounted on a metal frame that provides structural stability to the whole. The choice of this material responds to both constructive and symbolic criteria: Corten steel, with its changing patina and natural oxidation process, introduces a temporal dimension to the piece, allowing the monument to evolve over the years and interact with its surroundings.
The structure is firmly anchored to the ground, establishing a direct relationship with the site and reinforcing the idea of permanence. At the same time, the mineral character and earthy tone of the Corten steel facilitate its integration into the landscape, allowing the piece to blend into its surroundings while maintaining its symbolic presence.
In this way, the project transforms a collective and fleeting gesture into a permanent architectural element, capable of preserving the memory of that moment and keeping alive, in the public space, an act of shared gratitude.
